Dubrovnik is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It was established in the 7th century and many buildings in Dubrovnik date from the Middle Ages. For many centuries, it was the most important trade port in the world, and due to its great political and economic power, it remained intact all the way from the Renaissance... Set on the very south of Croatia, on the Adriatic Sea, in the region of Dalmatia, Dubrovnik is one of the most prominent tourist destinations in the whole of Europe. The city's beauty has been recognised by UNESCO, so the most beautiful part of the city, its Old Town, has been added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites back in 1979. Dubrovnik is very alive city, with lots of restaurants, museums, galleries and cafe bars. It offers some entertainment and attractions for everybody, while it kept its natural beauty and intact nature around itself. Everybody can find something for themselves in that city, which is very tourist friendly and tourist oriented. Some of the many sights and attractions in Dubrovnik are the Sponza Palace, the Dubrovnik's finest Renaissance highlight from 16th century which is currently used as the National Archives; The Rector's Palace, a Gothic-Renaissance monument, currently used as a museum, while in the past it has been one of the most important buildings in the city; St. Saviour Church is another very important monument from Renaissance, situated next to the Franciscan Church and Monastery, which has a famous library that possesses 30,000 volumes, 216 incunabula and among other things - 1,500 valuable handwritten documents; St Blaise's church, one of the most important and most beautiful churches in Croatia and the church built in honor of St Blaise, the patron saint of the city. All that monuments are very important for Dubrovnik's annual Summer Festival, a well-respected and awarded 45-day-long cultural event with live plays, concerts and games. Moreover, there is also Srđ Hill above the city to which you can come by cable car, then Stradun, Dubrovnik's main street with the statue of Roland (Orlando), St. Dominic Street, the Big Onofrio's fountain – the beautiful and very useful public fountain built by Napolitan architect and engineer Onofrio della Cava, the Old Harbour, Pile and Ploče Gates, and the most important Dubrovnik's attraction – the Walls of Dubrovnik that include Minčeta tower, fortress Bokar, Fort Lovrijenac (Fort of St. Lawrence) and towers St. John and Revelin in which is situated most prominent and one of the best night clubs on the Adriatic Sea – Revelin Night Club. Through popular culture, Dubrovnik has also become famous because of Game of Thrones TV series in which it represents the city of King's Landing and the locations of Daenerys Targaryen. It is also famous because popular Irish literate George Bernard Shaw called it „a heaven on earth“, and because many movies and TV series have been filmed in Dubrovnik and in its area. Also, Dubrovnik has a lot of beaches, such as Banje – the most important and most famous city beach, as well as Copacabana beach at Lapad peninsula named after the one of the world's best known beaches in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It has lots of bars and night clubs, even beach bars like Eastwest at Banje beach. Finally, Dubrovnik is not only beuatiful and eventful, its suburban area has also many things to offer, such as Konavle's countryside and Zupa dubrovacka's beaches, little and romantic city of Cavtat, folklore in Cilipi and Pridvorje villages, wonderful hidden beaches such as Pendza or Pasjaca, Konavle with Eagle Tower and attractions such as ATV Safari, horseback riding, Adrenalin parks and sightseeing paths and walking trails.
